COACHING FAQs
Are these coaching sessions on Zoom, phone or in person?
Unless stated otherwise, these are phone sessions (I will call the number you provided when you scheduled the call). Why phone? Research shows that phone coaching is just as effective as in-person coaching, and has the added bonus of flexibility (no need for wifi if you’re traveling) and giving you a break cognitively from Zoom fatigue. If you are an international client, we can do an audio-only Zoom call as well.
How should I prepare for our call?
Take five minutes to jot down your answer to “What feels like the most helpful topic or question to focus on first?”. This is the question I’ll open our session with, and you can verbally process your answer with me, or prepare it beforehand so we dive right into coaching. Up to you! See below for examples of what our coaching call can help support.
Be sure you select a time and date when you will have sound privacy (don't take your coaching session at a cafe :) and the ability to focus (don’t take the call while driving). I would rather you reschedule last minute if it means you’ll have the privacy and focus you need to get the most from our session together (you can reschedule easily via the link in the calendar invite you received).
You can absolutely go on a walk or lie down or whatever you’d like to help you focus. I do recommend having pen and paper or a way to capture notes as needed.
What kinds of topics can I bring to the coaching call?
Any topic or question that would help you show up as your best self and manager at work! This can be a challenge you’re working through, a dilemma you haven’t solved yet, a question from a previous workshop together, or support on a leadership, behavioral, or career goal you’d like to achieve this year. I have a background in specific topics as well: healthy productivity, authentic leadership skills, assertiveness and boundary-setting, tough feedback conversations, conflict resolution, career coaching, values-aligned entrepreneurship, brain-friendly meetings, and operationalizing equity and inclusion, to name a few :)
If you’re having a hard time deciding, try journaling first on these topics:
If you had a magic wand that could solve any problem at all, which problem would you choose so that you could be your best self at work?
What are your two most important goals or priorities in your work role right now, and what challenges or barriers are you most concerned about that might stand in your way?
Is there a core need that is threatened or isn’t feeling great right now at work, and that is making it hard to focus or to be your best self at work?
Are these coaching sessions confidential?
Yes. Everything that is discussed in the coaching call is 100% confidential between you and I. This ensures the coaching session is a safe environment to explore whatever is on your mind that may be impacting your work, without concern of how you will be judged by others or how it may impact your job or career. This is a safe space.
How do I book a session?
Check your email for the link to schedule your session and additional detail from your HR/ People Ops team. You can search for the keywords “Coaching FAQs” or “Paloma Medina” if you’re having a hard time locating the scheduling email.
